- To be eligible for ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP in this Company, a person
must be:
- at least eighteen (18) years of age and not more than forty-five
(45) years of age
- AND cannot be listed on the roles of another fire department
in the office of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association
- To be eligible for ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP in this Company, a person
must be:
- at least eighteen (18) years of age and not more than forty-five
(45) years of age
- OR a member in good standing of another fire department and
a member of that department's local relief association
- Any person joining as an ACTIVE or ASSOCIATE MEMBER of this
Fire Company shall be:
- required to serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months
from date of acceptance by the Borough of Rumson Fire Department
- required to attend and graduate or provide proof of the successful
completion from an accredited fire academy recognized by the
State of New Jersey within the probationary period
- Applicants must:
- reside with a seven (7) mile radius of the Borough Hall in
the Borough of Rumson for at least six (6) months immediately
prior to application for membership, with the exception of a
person who was a previous member of this Company
- be able to read and write the English language
- be a citizen of the United States of America
- have a physical examination by the Borough Physician, or if
by personal physician, at applicant's personal expense (Physician
must certify that applicant is capable of performing all firematic
duties)
- Applications must be:
- made in writing on forms furnished by the Company or Borough
- signed and notarized by a Notary Public
- accompanied by the initiation fee of ten (10) dollars
- presented to the Secretary for review for completeness, four
(4) copies are required
- CADET MEMBER
Cadet Firefighters shall meet all the qualifications of regular firemen, except that they need only have reached the age of fourteen (14) years and may be no older than seventeen (17) years of age.
Cadet Firefighters, before being considered for membership, must obtain permission to join the Program from their parent(s) or guardian(s) and must submit to the fire company the permission, in writing, and acknowledged or approved in the manner required by law for deeds to real estate to be recorded.
Every person seeking to become a Cadet Firefighter must apply and be selected in the same manner as regular Firefighters.
Cadet Firefighters shall be trained for eventual membership in the Rumson Fire Department by the Chief or the Assistant Chief and the regular members.

Applicants must be:
- over the required age for active duty (more than forty-five
(45) years of age)
- OR physically handicapped
- Applications must be:
- made in writing on forms furnished by the Company
- accompanied by the initiation fee of ten (10) dollars
- presented to the Secretary for review for completeness, two
(2) copies are required
